Four teams remain undefeated in the Alabama Sports
Writers Association high school basketball poll released today.
In the girls poll, Class 5A top-ranked Faith Academy and Class 1A
top-ranked J.F. Shields both started the season without a loss. Mobile’s
Faith Academy has won 24 straight while Beatrice’s J.F. Shields has won
17 straight.
There were no changes among the leaders in the girls poll with Class 6A
Hoover, Class 5A Faith, Class 4A Ramsay, Class 3A Madison Academy, Class
2A Cold Springs, Class 1A Shields and AISA Lee-Scott all retaining the
No. 1 position.
Class 5A Carver-Montgomery (14-0) and AISA Cornerstone Christian (17-0)
are still unbeaten in boys play.
Carver jumped into the rankings after the Wolverines recently came off
restrictive probation. The Wolverines and Valley were placed on
probation for an on-court fight at last year’s Class 5A Central
Regional. Because of both schools’ efforts to atone for the fight, the
AHSAA removed their postseason ban late last week, which made both
eligible for the rankings. Carver is sixth while unranked Valley is
14-3.
There are two new No. 1 teams with Class 4A Andalusia and Class 1A
Brantley taking over the top spots. Class 4A Brewbaker Tech fell to
fifth after an 84-67 loss to Lee-Montgomery on Monday and Class 1A Cedar
Bluff dropped to fourth after a 62-55 loss to Cherokee County on
Saturday.
