REGION CHAMPIONS!!!
Andalusia wins by 1

The Andalusia Bulldogs are the 4A Region 2 Champions.  Earlier today program23 stated whether by 1 or 100 the result would be the same and indeed it was - Andalusia 21, Ashford 20.   Andalusia scored in the fourth quarter and kicked the extra point for a 21-20 win.

Andalusia vs. Ashford
(Predictions: Andalusia by 4)

"It all comes down to this."  An overused statement particularly in sports, but is there another phrase that more appropriately sums up the season for Andalusia.  But whether the win is by 1 or a 100 it still produces the same result - region champs.   Andalusia Weekly Preview

Andalusia defeats Hillcrest
Head coach Brian Seymore hoped at the beginning of the year the region would come down to week seven's game between Straughn and Andalusia.  "Coach Taylor and I are good friends and I'd hope [Andalusia and Straughn] can play for the region title," said Seymore before week one of football play.  "It would mean a lot to our players, the community and prove how good the football is in Covington county."

The coach is extremely close to his football desire as the two county foes knot up next Friday 4-0 in region play after the Bulldogs dramatic win against Hillcrest Friday Night.

"We are blessed to get a win," said Seymore after the 20-14 Homecoming win.
The devote spiritual leader turned the Bulldogs around and kept Andalusia focused after a one sided loss the previous week to T.R. Miller and Straughn coming next week to play a very talented Hillcrest-Evergreen team.
The winning drive came in the fourth quarter when Deion Akins hit Derrick King who ran in the 81-yard reception.   The extra point was missed and the Bulldogs held a 20-14 advantage.

Just as Straughn had to two weeks prior against Hillcrest - holding a 22-15 lead, Andalusia's defense had to make a stop against big play Evergreen holding a 20-14 lead.  The Jaguars took 11 plays and drove the ball down to the Bulldogs 29-yard line to setup a dramatic fourth down conversion.

Daven Dixon looked to have the Jaguars' first down, but Andalusia's Jerome Matthews came up with a defensive gem knocking the ball out of Matthews hands to seal the Homecoming victory for the Bulldogs.

King rushed for 126 yards on 20 carries, but the senior was Bulldog-a-licious out of the backfield hauling in two passes for 161-yards both touchdowns.

The Bulldogs held a 14-7 advantage at halftime until Hillcrest's Travis Stallworth broke a 61-yard run with 10:15 left in the fourth quarter leading to King's heroics.
The senior's fourth quarter score was similar to an 80-yard score to take the first half lead with 8:41 remaining in the second.

While King shined on offense, the Bulldogs gained presence on defense with the return of Rafeal Sims, who was back from an earlier season injury.  Sims recorded nine tackles finishing one ahead of Jacard Townsend.

The key to Andalusia winning the game was likely not King with his two dramatic touchdowns, but "Our defense," said Seymore.  The coach called out the big fourth down stop and big stops through-out the game keeping Andalusia on track for next week's contest against #4 Straughn (6-0; 4-0).

Andalusia remains unbeaten
The Bulldogs played it close in the first half with a one touchdown lead until Andalusia broke it open in the second half, winning  42-13 and moving 3-0; 2-0.  Andalusia's been impressive in their 3 game winning streak, but their opponents are a combined 0-12, including this Friday's Bullock County.

St. James struck first in the region 2, 4A contest taking a 6-0 advantage on two field goals and giving fans a glimmer of breaking their 0-2 start.  However Derrick King put on a touchdown show scoring 4 times including a 69-yard TD for Andalusia's overwhelming victory.

King scored from 3,3,14, and 69 for his four touchdown performance while collecting 203 yards on 23 carries.    The Bulldogs return home to play their final region contest of the first half this Friday against 0-3 Bullock County.

Bulldogs win Friday's Jamboree
(August 21, 2010)
While the sky was filled with lighting throughout the area Friday night, Andalusia stadium was filled with thunder as the defense was dominating and the
offense built a 28 point half time lead over the 3A #9 Luverne Tigers.
Coach Brian Seymore was extremely pleased after the game and excited about the year and the Andalusia fans. "I'm very pleased and we played physical. "

Andalusia's Derrick King rushed for 183 yards on 12 carries, but it wasn't just King that had Seymore excited. "he offensive front made holes and we gained a lot of yardage because they blocked up front. We have some great runners, but I'm extremely pleased with our blockers."

The Bulldogs open the regular season with 5A Carrol in Ozark next Friday.

Bulldogs ready for Friday's Jamboree

The streets surrounding the Andalusia practice field have been lined with Bulldog fans and parents watching the team's afternoon practices in preparation for the 2010 season.

The team continues on Coach Brian Seymore's building program improving each of his two seasons and look to add to his 8-13 record. Two year's ago the Bulldogs struggled to a 2-8 season that included a 26-50 loss to then 3A rival Straughn that set the tone for 2008. Last year the Bulldogs worked on several goals including defeating Straughn and returning to the playoffs - both were accomplished.

Program23 reviewed our 2009 predictions for the Bulldogs and had a worst case 2-8, best case 8-2, and our final season prediction of 6-4 was realized by the Bulldogs. Andalusia finished as predicted at 6-4 and finished the season 6-5 after a first round playoff loss at Opp.

This year, Seymore is excited about the teams focus and off season workouts to accomplish another year of goals that should include a deeper run into the post season. "It would be great for the fans and the County if the region title came down to Straughn and us," said Seymore. The Tigers moved up from 3A and move into the same region (4A 2) as the Bulldogs.

Straughn's Trent Taylor shares the sentiment concerning the week seven contest between the two Covington County schools.

Andalusia gets their first chance to view their current progression to team goals as they host 3A Luverne in a preseason Jamboree this Friday beginning at 7:00 PM. "We'll get a chance to work out all the players and see where we are in live game speed."

Luverne is coming off a semi-final run last season after falling one game short of reaching the 3A championship game. A place Andalusia hopes to reach as a 4A team this season.
