Florala's Buckler
Hospitalized
Head Coach and Athletic Director Chris Buckler has been admitted
to St. Vincent in Birmingham on Labor Day with pneumonia.
The first year coach was preparing the final move for his family
but was taken to the
hospital after a weekend high temperature of 103. "He's
really worried about [this Friday's game with Brantley], but
right now we just are getting him better," said Ami Buckler from
St. Vincent. "We need him to be there for the
entire season."
Buckler arrived at Florala and took up residency in the Field
House, while his wife remained back in Birmingham until their
house became ready after Labor Day. "[Ami] will be
finishing up her position at the end of August and then we'll
get her down during Labor Day weekend," said coach a couple
weeks ago.
Buckler has been non-stop since arriving at Florala -signing
several deals with local sponsors and a logo deal with Kansas
State University to received gear and various items with Wildcat
logo. One specific logo is now on the 50-yard line and is
the emblem of a Wildcat head.
Buckler has also signed Florala with Nike and a new sports
equipment provider that is already saving the program 15-30%
annually.
"We are really excited about the positive energy and desire to
help our students and faculty," said Principal Donnie Powell
after Buckler first arrived at Florala.

The Wildcats, with only three seniors, were extremely
competitive against 2A Samson (2-0) in week one, but several
mistakes led to three Samson touchdowns in Florala's season
opening loss. "We really worked hard to correct a lot of
young mistakes and prepare for Georgiana," said Buckler heading
into Friday's first region game.
Florala shocked everyone except themselves after they pulled off
a remarkable comeback and outscored Georgiana in the second half
14-0 to pick up their first win since August 2009, 20-18.
It also put Florala in a position not mentioned in several
years, and that is playoff talk.
Buckler is expected to miss Friday's contest against the
Brantley Bulldogs. Brantley is ranked #2 and has not lost
a region contest since 2001 and has won 16 of the last 18 region
titles (2001, 1996).
Buckler was still running a high fever and no indication of his
release from St. Vincent's.
The couple is expecting their first child at the end of the
year.
