Tigers / Eagles ready for Friday's Jamboree
Red Level, like Pleasant Home and most small schools, succeed and
struggle based on enrollment and the athletes who play and compete. The
Tigers have experienced both highs and lows over the last six years
- highlighted by the 11-2 2004 playoff season falling in the third round to
Cottonwood (18-27) and the 2006 season with a
playoff loss to Luverne
(13-26). The Tigers have been roughed up the last three seasons going a
combined 5-25, but this year Red Level has caught the eyes of other
coaches throughout the county.
Even the coaches at the three largest schools in Covington County
(Straughn, Andalusia and Opp) have heard about the talent and speed the
Tigers will put on the field for the 2010 season. Coach Tony Ingram,
however, quickly diverts talk to his opponent. "Pleasant Home has so
much size up front this year and are going to create some noise in their
region," said Ingram.
The Eagles will have John Caleb Sanders (6'3 (285), Josh O'Neal (6'6 /
245), and Jeffrey Slaughter (6'3 / 275) creating holes for RB Frank
Senn (5'10 180) and speedster
Cory Sims - who will call the plays for Pleasant Home this season.
Ingram, while down playing the Tigers, knows his team has the best
opportunity to turn around the difficulty Red Level has faced over the
past three years (0-10, 3-7, 2-8). The Tigers have made some
changes on the coaching staff and have 17 senior heading into the 2010
football season.
|
The Tigers will also move over to 2A region 2 from region 1 and may have
some relief from powers, Leroy, Southern Choctaw, and Mobile Christian.
However preseason 2A #3 Elba (11-1 2009) waits on this year's Red
Level schedule and is a favorite to win the State Title.

Pleasant
Home vs. Red Level (2009)
2010 - Red Level
- Practice
|
Red Level and Pleasant Home could represent the optimism over the entire
County, as every team looks to improve on last season.
Both Red Level (2-8) and Pleasant Home (3-6) finished disappointing years
after high expectations for the 2009 season. Red Level and
Pleasant Home counted wins over Florala (1-9) and Kinston (2-8) and the
Eagles added a win over Coffeeville (1-9). The Tigers and Eagles
had move wins between them than their three opponents combined.
2010 - Red Level Coaching Staff
However, this year should be different.
For Red Level and Pleasant Home both teams expect to be in their
respective classes playoff discussion come October, but for Friday Night
it will be a return to a traditional Jamboree Kick-off. Last year,
the teams played an exciting, hard hitting contest that Red Level pulled
out 20-14. This year expect to see tough defense from the Red
Level Tigers and pounding - ground control offense from Pleasant Home.
