RED LEVEL TIGERS
WEEKLY PREVIEW
Alabama High
School Athletic Association
Week 5 - Non-Region
Red Level (2-2) vs. McKenzie (4-0)
Red Level and McKenzie haven't faced
each other since 2007 when the Tigers were shocked by McKenzie in a high
powered shootout, 48-58. 2007 was the first of three
consecutive losing seasons (0-10; 2-8; 2-8) and now the Tigers have a
real opportunity to turn things around in 2010.
McKenzie has been just the
opposite. After only 1 win in three years (2003-2005), the
Tigers brought in Miles Brown. The former Pleasant Home
assistance had a losing record (3-7) in 2006, but has winning
records every year following and is off to another 4-0 start.
McKenzie's issues haven't been their regular season performance,
but the post season winning only 1 game over the last two
season's. The Tigers have won only five playoff games
since their 5-0 run and 1A State Title in 1989 and have not been
past the second round since 2002.
Red Level was 6-4 in the
playoffs from 2003-2006, but haven't made the post season since
'06. This season is Red Level's best opportunity.
The Tigers have never won a State Title since playoffs were
established, but were declared State Champs after their
9-0-1 season in 1957.
McKenzie hasn't played the
caliber teams Red Level has faced with #2 Brantley and 2A Goshen
(3-1). Red Level has risen to the challenge in two region
contest, while McKenzie best challenge could be 2-2 Geneva
County.
Red Level would certainly be
4-0 if they would have played McKenzie's schedule and although
the 1A Tigers are a 35-point favorite by computer matchups -
expect this to be a much closer contest.
