Both Straughn and Daleville
are 8-1 heading into Friday's final regular season game and both
will host a first round playoff game next Friday as the AHSAA
playoffs begin.
The two teams have faced
common opponents during the season, with Straughn holding a 3-0
advantage with Daleville's 2-21 loss to 3A Opp in week 2.
The Tigers defeated Opp in non-region week 5, 42-25.
Daleville holds a 2-0 record
against Straughn with the two teams last meeting in 1977.
The Warhawks won that meeting 20-12. Daleville won the two
teams other only meeting a year earlier, hosting the Tigers in a
17-7 victory.
Straughn and Daleville were
both in 2A region 3 and both finished the 1976 season 4-6; 1-4.
In 1977, Straughn improved to 6-4, but dropped to the Warhawks in
another region battle.
Both Straughn and Daleville
lost to Florala in 1976 and 1977 in 2A region 3 play.
Straughn looks for their
third consecutive final week 10 victory since losing to
Andalusia Nov 1, 2007. Daleville lost their
regular season finale last year to 1A Brantley, 12-22.
The Warhawks finished last
season 6-1 and second in the region behind Pike County, but lost
in the first round of the playoffs to Bayside Academy, 14-27.
Bayside lost the following week on the road to the Straughn
Tigers, 14-0.
