Straughn could face one of the best 6-4 teams in the State when UMS-Wright visits for the first round of the AHSAA Playoffs posting a 16-first round winning streak.  UMS is 5-2 in region 1 with losses to #1 Thomasville (10-0) and #5 Jackson (9-1).  The Bulldogs also started the season with a loss to 6A McGill-Toolen (7-3) and last week's 3-point loss to 5A #8 St. Paul's (9-1).   

There is no history between UMS and Straughn since the two have never met on the football field. 

2010 is Straughn High School's first year competing at the 4A level.  The Tigers first competed in 1974 in 1A and finished the season 4-5 before moving up a classification to 2A in 1975.  Straughn stayed in 2A until 2002 when the school moved up to 3A.   The schools first venture into the post season was recorded in 1990 in the first year of current head coach Trent Taylor.  Taylor is completing his 21st year as head coach taking Straughn to the playoffs 16 times.  Straughn tied their best post-season finish last year making it to the quarterfinal round of 3A playoffs.

For UMS-Wright, the Bulldogs played in 1907 with their first playoff appearance 64 years later - falling in the first round in 3A.   Doug Barfield coach the Bulldogs in 1962-64 before moving to Andalusia for two season (1965-1966) and then on to the collegiate level. 

The current head coach for UMS-Wright is Terry Curtis - finishing his 12th season at the helm.  Curtis was at Shaw for four seasons followed by six years at Murphy before taking over in 1999 for the Bulldogs.   Curtis has one losing record at UMS-Wright when the team finished 6-7 in 2007 going 2-1 in the post season after their second season in 5A.  Since Curtis' arrival at UMS-Wright the private school has recorded four AHSAA State Super-6 Championship (2001, 2002, 2005, 2008) and has posted a 133-30.
