Class 2A, 1A, AISA
Bucs, Trojans 1-2 in 6A for 1st time in
nine seasons
By PAUL BEAUDRY For The ASWA
The only time Hoover and Daphne were ranked
1-2 this late in the season by the Alabama Sports Writers
Association, they were able to settle the difference at the end
of the year.
Should this week’s ASWA high school
football rankings hold true, the two could square off again in
Week 15. For the sixth-straight week the Bucs were a unanimous
No. 1 in Class 6A, grabbing all 36 votes from the ASWA pollsters
while the Trojans were second on 31 of the 36 ballots.
It’s not going to be easy for the two to
stay in their respective spots: Hoover hosts No. 8 Vestavia
Hills at Regions Park on Friday then ends Region 6 play next
week against Mountain Brook, while Daphne hosts Fairhope in a
battle to break a first-place tie in Region 2, then faces
McGill-Toolen to close the region play.
Oh, and when they did finally meet? Daphne
hung a 48-21 win on the Bucs for their only win in five games
against Hoover in the 2001 title game.
The top of each class moved little this
week, except for Vestavia dropping from second to No. 8 in 6A
after a 19-16 loss to Spain Park. That will change in Class 3A
this week as No. 2 Cordova is at No. 4 Hamilton in a game to
decide the Region 5 winner.
In other games between ranked teams
this week,
Class 3A No. 10 T.R. Miller
is at No. 9 Trinity,
Class 2A No. 8 Fyffe is at No. 9 Ider,
Class 1A No. 7 Addison is at No. 9
Hackleburg
AISA No. 4 Fort Dale hosts No. 5 Clarke
Prep.
