Opp Bobcats vs. Pike

Pike County fell to 2A Goshen last Friday
to lose their first game of the season and dropped to 4-1,
but remain undefeated in region play (3-0). Both Opp and
Pike County have lost to 2A region 2 opponents - Elba defeated
Opp in week 1, 19-6 and Goshen last week's win, 24-47.
While dropping this season, the Bulldogs went 9-0 in 2009, but
fell in the first round of the playoffs 7-13 to Luverne.
That seemed the fate this year as Pike County was rolling
through the region, although the games were much closer and the
defense allowing more points.
Opp can not afford another region loss if the Bobcats are to
host a first round contest and play either a third or fourth
seeded region 1 opponent. The Bobcats control their own
playoff fate. If Opp can win the remainder of their games
they would win 3A region 2 and be at the top of the
3A South Bracket and potentially host 3 playoff games.
A loss would mean a very large hole and a lot of luck for Opp in
3A Region 2's playoff picture. The Bobcats would most
likely fall to 3rd and potentially 4th if they won their
remaining games and ended the region play at 5-2. Luverne
could finish at 5-2 as could Daleville or Abbeville. All
will play out, but likely not decided until week 9.
A Bobcat win over Pike County could clear up the first steps of
the playoff countdown.
