Brantley Bulldogs
 
The last region team to defeat the Brantley Bulldogs - Pleasant Home Eagles.
The year 2001. It's been nearly 10 season's since the Brantley Bulldogs
lost a region contest. 8 region titles, 1 state championship,
a playoff record of 20-7
and 59
straight region games without a loss.
Since 1998, the Bulldogs have played in four championship games
with two 1A State Titles in 1998 and 2009. Their current
streak of region wins and 8 straight region championships dates
back 9 years. Friday, October 26th 2001, the Bulldogs lost to
Pleasant Home 13-22 in the Eagles Nest. The team's last
region defeat.
Anthony Clark was the Eagles coach and Pleasant home posted
their best season at 7-4 finishing second in the region behind
GW Long and ahead of Brantley and Kinston. All four teams
lost in the first round of the playoffs.
It was only Pleasant Home's second year playing organized
football. The team has never posted a seven win season
since, and only twice has finished with .500 regular season
records (2002, 2006). The Eagles have also never won a
first round playoff game in three attempts.
This season, however, Pleasant Home has an opportunity to break
several team records - including most points. The Eagles
need 130 points to tie their most productive regular season.
The Bulldogs will face their
toughest teams in the second half of the season beginning with
Pleasant Home and ending with McKenzie before facing Linden in
week 10. Brantley hasn't allowed more than one touchdown
per game this season, while averaging 43.
Pleasant Home has been up and
down this season, but at 2-3 the Eagles could prove a very
formidable opponent for the #1 Bulldogs.
